61 Nobel Laureates endorse Obama
According to a news article on Nature, 61 Nobel prize winners have endorsed Obama and his vision for science – the largest scientific endorsement in any presidential election so far. In 2004, John Kerry got endorsed from 48 Nobel laureates. An excerpt from the article follows:
———————————
As political and financial leaders in the United States struggled on Thursday to contain the meltdown on Wall Street, presidential contender Barack Obama released an 11-page “plan for science and innovation” that outlined aggressive investments in science and technology. The proposal includes a doubling of funding over ten years at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The Obama supporters range from James Watson, a 1962 Nobel prize winner in physiology or medicine, to two of last year’s winners in physiology or medicine, Mario Capecchi and Oliver Smithies. In an “open letter to the American people,” they write: “The country urgently needs a visionary leader who can ensure the future of our traditional strengths in science and technology and who can harness those strengths to address many of our greatest problems: energy, disease, climate change, security, and economic competitiveness. We are convinced that Senator Barack Obama is such a leader.”
The Obama plan contains more specific details on science policies than had been released previously (see the questions he answered for Nature on related topics here: http://www.nature.com/news/2008/080903/full/455446a.html). For instance, he plans to restore the presidential science advisor to a position that reports directly to the president; details a “fast track” system to permit international students who study at US universities to begin working in the United States without having to return home first; emphasizes research into “smart grids” to improve efficiency in the nation’s electrical distribution system; and talks of strengthening the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Pentagon’s hub for cutting-edge research.
Besides the NIH, agencies that would benefit from funding increases would include the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Department of Energy’s Office of Science and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. As a senator, John McCain has voted in favour of such increases in the physical sciences, under the rubric of the popular America COMPETES Act.
Some of the Nobelists supporting Obama say they did so because they want change after eight years of President George W. Bush’s administration, during which researchers have complained of manipulation of science for political ends. “We need new and visionary leadership,” says Bob Horvitz, a biologist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. “Senator Obama will engage top scientists in our nation’s great challenges.”

Debate video: How McCain lies as if no one would know…Shame!
McCain’s lies have reached their lowest ebb. After all the false and absolutely blasphemous attack ads, he now has the nerve to criticize Obama on his position on war !
McCain is nothing but a war-monger, determined to lead America by flexing its muscles around the world. Surprisingly, yesterday in the debate when he was asked what he would cut back given the $700 billion bailout, he said
“A spending freeze on everything except defense and veteran affairs”
What about the millions of people in the country? What about education? What about healthcare? What about research? His soldier-background has made him a soldier, a war monger for life. He thinks that “fighting” is the only solution to all problems. Fight, fight, bomb, bomb. He doesnt realise the importance of education, healthcare and the positive energy in the country in making the nation strong.
And not just the US, this is a policy that has failed and has angered Muslims all around the globe, who have now become one in their jihad against the US. It is precisely this bullying approach that has lowered America’s reputation in the world! Shame…

Palin hasnt heard Kissinger say “Yeah”
An interesting funny article here at Daily Kos. The joke is an extreme of deductive reasoning, but its funny. The reasoning for the above claim is as follows:
————————
1) Palin met Kissinger
2) When asked about Kissinger’s opinion that we should meet with Ahmadinejad without preconditions, Palin says “I’ve never heard Henry Kissinger say, “Yeah, I’ll meet with these leaders without preconditions being met.”
3) But Kissinger has indeed said I’ll meet with these leaders without preconditions being met.”
4) So Palin hasnt heard Kissinger say “Yeah”
————————
Its like saying:
1) McCain is old
2) Dinosaur fossils are old
3) McCain is a dinosaur fossil
Hehe…
Funny, no?

Palin says “Reducing taxes got to accompany tax reductions”!! Whoa!
Palin’s probably competing with Bush for the lowest IQ. Or just that she’s too tensed and under enormous pressure. In any case, she lays a strong argument for her not being in the White House. This from Palin’s last night’s interview with Katie Couric:
——————————————-
COURIC: Why isn’t it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries? … Instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?
PALIN: Ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up the economy– Oh, it’s got to be about job creation too. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions.
————————————————————————–
Bailout for providing healthcare? And reducing taxes gotta accompany tax reductions??!! Whoa!!

Palin ready to lead? She isnt even “ready” to talk to Letterman!
I agree with some when they say McCain is not afraid to debate. He’s been in politics for a long time, on the public stage. But his understudy Sarah Palin is not. She’s just started meeting world leaders, one of whom – the Pakistani President – said “you look gorgeous…if the reporters want me to hug you, I have no problem!!”… Would anyone have imagined anyone saying that to the future President of the United States!
A hockey mom’s experience isnt really the best one out there for dealing with heads of states that sponsor terror, or hardened world leaders like Putin. And this is not being sexist…I would never have said such a thing about Hillary. Sarah Palin cannot be allowed to occupy the most powerful office in the world. She simply cannot handle that power. John McCain does understand that.
And Letterman is right here. If John McCain cannot trust her enough to give interviews to media, or take his place on a TV show, why should the Americans trust her for being a heartbeat away from Presidency?

CNN exposes Palin’s lies and excesses: Splurging money on road to nowhere
Well, we know now that her “Thanks, but no thanks to the bridge to nowhere ” was a lie to fit into the McCain campaign. Turns out that the “Bridge” was never built but a “Road” leading to that bridge was indeed built, at a humongous expense to taxpayers. No one uses that road, but Palin did not object to it, nor return the money. Now we know that Palin is a perfect vice-presidential candidate for John McCain – she lies almost as good as him!

New Obama ad hammers McCain on his foreign cars
He doesnt know how many houses he has. He has 7. He lies about having just one car. He (his family included) have 13. He self-confesses to know nothing about how the economy works. The only thing he knows how to do is fight a war. He doesnt know the definition of being “rich”. He thinks people make more than 5 million are rich, and someone making 4 million shuld be middle-class. Can we trust this man to get America out of this economic mess? No way!

McCain’s voting record far from being “green”
The lies being spread by McCain and his campaign for getting elected speaks a lot about how he would run the country. Adding one more lie to the already piling up list is his claim of being green, and that he would go out of the way to save the environment. His Senate voting record gives a completely different picture.
Recently the Associated Press noted that “McCain has not shown up for eight Senate votes last year and this year to extend [renewable energy] tax credits, which expire at the end of this year. The last such vote was July 30.” Yet at an Aspen Institute meeting in August, when McCain was asked about those missed votes, he simply lied to the audience.
“I have a long record of that support of alternate energy,” McCain said. “I come from a state where we have sunshine 360 days a year … I’ve always been for all of those and I have not missed any crucial vote.”
Here’s what Daily Kos learnt…

By the Way, McCain Lies About Being Green, Too
by Meteor Blades
Sat Sep 20, 2008 at 10:49:26 AM PDT
…
…
When McCain did bother to show up and vote on renewable energy funding and the renewable portfolio standard (RPS), which would set the percentage of U.S. energy derived from renewables, here is how he cast his ballots:
Tax credits for clean energy R&D (2001) Nay (The green vote: Yea.)
Require a 20 percent RPS where utilities buy 20 percent clean energy (’02) Nay (The green vote: Yea.)
Reduce 20 percent RPS requirement (’02) Yea (The green vote: Nay)
Waive 20 percent RPS if utilities balk (’02) Yea (The green vote: Nay.)
Increase clean energy R&D funding (’05) Nay (The green vote: Yea.)
Clean energy incentives (’05) Nay (The green vote: Yea.)
An RPS to require utilities [to] buy some clean energy (’05) Nay (The green vote: Yea.)
Tax oil companies windfall profits to fund clean energy (’05) Nay (The green vote: Yea.)
Although it wasn’t on the Senate floor, McCain cast another vote against the environment on his birthday three weeks ago. That’s when he chose as his running mate Sarah Palin, a person who, like Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe, doesn’t believe global warming is being caused by human behavior.
———————————————
There you go…he’s probably more concerned about winning the war in Iraq than the one at home…
