China blocks access to iTunes library!!

As the story goes, China has blocked access to the millions of songs in the iTunes library because some athletes downloaded songs from an album called Songs for Tibet. Downloaders in China get the screen below thanks to the ‘Great Firewall of China’. Well, great going, China for all the Olympic gold medals, but if your intention was to show your arrival on the world stage, I am not sure how many points you get for it.

Beijing Olympics grand opening video

This openeing ceremony was simply awesome.

Watch it in full here

About 22,000 people took part in the gala, in which 15,000 costumes were used and 43,000 fireworks lit. Read about the secrets of the opening ceremony from the director of the ceremony himself – Zhang Yimou

The opening ceremony tries to portray one thing – that the Chinese can use their population as a resource and not as a liability. They move the nation by people. Their progress is inherently tied to the use of people. What they wanted to show, with their grand scale and beautifully synchronised performances, was that they can use the sheer force of humans to just push things through. And the message did get through clearly…

This perspective is also reflected in their economic progress, in their communist ideology, in their attitude towards society. Its like the human body – the brain controlling the rest of the organs without the organs having any autonomy. The brain takes care of the needs of the body, achieves perfect synchrony between the different organs, and charts out the future and the destiny of the body.

I dont know, and do not wish to judge, whether this is good and bad. What I would like to say though is that with the right perspective and the right intentions, this approach might just work wonders for the planet and for mankind. But then, wouldn’t that be called “democracy”?
